Virtual Server R2 now free!

April 3rd, 2006. Published under Technology. No Comments.

So today we announced that anyone can use Virtual Server R2 free! That is correct, you can download and use the full version right from the website with no license cost. I think that is pretty cool, especially for anyone at home wanting to use a couple of desktops to build a lab for testing or exam prep etc.

Good stuff :)

Another couple of good VS R2 links:

At Techready in Seattle this week

January 11th, 2006. Published under Technology. No Comments.

So I am here at Techready in Seattle this week (an internal MS field conference), there are all kinds of good sessions going on (Scoble ran a sesson, but I missed it to check out an E12 session) and tons of great networking as well… not to mention some good partying in the evenings.

Last night we had a team dinner for the MS Canada Services team dinner and I’m sitting with a few friends just chatting about nothing in particular. All of a sudden one of the guys at the table says to a guy sitting next to me: “Hey, aren’t you the guy who wrote DNSLint”. Turns out that he was in fact Tim Rains, the guy who wrote DNSLint (among other tools).

I love working here :)

We’re thinking of you Charlie

November 21st, 2005. Published under Life. No Comments.

An old friend of my grandfathers, Charlie, was diagnosed with cancer recently. He had an operation to remove a kidney, but was told things didn’t look good for him. They expected that he would have about a year, but were looking into alternative therapies and trying to stay positive.

We got a call today letting us know that he’s back in the hospital and they aren’t expecting him to make it out.

We’re pretty bummed, he is really quite a nice guy and we’d spent some time with him over the past year. He has a lot of great stories and is an incredible guy. We’re thinking of you Charlie and are hoping that you’ll pull through.

Been listening to a great new band

November 17th, 2005. Published under Life. No Comments.

They are called Protest the Hero. It’s a very metal style band, but they are pretty musical and actually sing instead of just scream. If you’re into rock/metal then you should definitely check them out, they have an MP3 you can download from their site and you can buy the album on itunes since it doesn’t seem to be available in many record stores.
