XBox 360 compatible wireless routers
April 22nd, 2006. Published under Technology. No Comments.
I’ve been pondering buying a new wireless router for home since the one that I currently have is only 802.11b while all my devices now support G or A; finally I broke down and decided to get a new one, but I wanted one that had A/B/G and was compatible with my Xbox 360. Took me a little while to dig up the page that had a list of the compatible routers so I thought I would post it here (for my own reference and potentially others).

Virtual Server R2 now free!
April 3rd, 2006. Published under Technology. No Comments.
So today we announced that anyone can use Virtual Server R2 free! That is correct, you can download and use the full version right from the website with no license cost. I think that is pretty cool, especially for anyone at home wanting to use a couple of desktops to build a lab for testing or exam prep etc.
Good stuff :)
Another couple of good VS R2 links:

At Techready in Seattle this week
January 11th, 2006. Published under Technology. No Comments.
So I am here at Techready in Seattle this week (an internal MS field conference), there are all kinds of good sessions going on (Scoble ran a sesson, but I missed it to check out an E12 session) and tons of great networking as well… not to mention some good partying in the evenings.
Last night we had a team dinner for the MS Canada Services team dinner and I’m sitting with a few friends just chatting about nothing in particular. All of a sudden one of the guys at the table says to a guy sitting next to me: “Hey, aren’t you the guy who wrote DNSLint”. Turns out that he was in fact Tim Rains, the guy who wrote DNSLint (among other tools).
I love working here :)

Yes you heard right, Exchange12 will be 64bit only
November 15th, 2005. Published under Technology. No Comments.
Just a quick post to confirm that yes, Exchange 12 will be 64bit only. It was announced publicly at the IT Forum and there isn’t a lot of documentation or links around from Microsoft about it yet. There will be more information coming out around the reasons why this was done etc. and I’ll update this post with a few good links as they come out.
Keep your eye on the Exchange Team blog for information as that will be a great source of authoritative information.
There is a public annoucement on the Microsoft Presspass site.
One of the key reasons that I have come across is that when they were developing E12 for 64bit in order to fully realize the value of 64bit they had to do things that negatively impacted 32bit. As a result they couldn’t offer the same level of quality in 32 bit if they were to realize the true value of 64bit. I think this was likely a key factor in driving the choice to go with 64bit only.
